Voice and Speech
A student will learn complete preparation to develop the voice and listening ability to achieve awareness and communication confidence. Breathing, projection, articulation with repetition are instructed as well as sense memory work and preparation of a poem or speech to enable a connection between one’s inner self and their voice.
Students will learn Voice to connect breathing and articulation to character work, Movement to use the body freely as an instrument to work with the senses. Improvisation to increase spontaneity, listening, trust, risk taking, comedic skills, free form exercises, teamwork and conflict resolution. Scene Study to build awareness of intention, beat changes, sensory and character development with other students.
Students will sound out and pronounce syllables, words and sentences as I follow along and provide feedback and encouragement. I teach students to rephrase sentences in the their own words to verbally demonstrate comprehension. I work on building vocabulary and students prepare a written summary demonstrating comprehension. Adjustments are suggested to parents and curricula to suit students’ individual reading needs.
Students will learn the proper use of language and composition structure including sentence and paragraph structure. I provide completed assignments, sentence starters, fill in the blank sentences, key content ideas and shared writing. I utilize word maps and interactive word walls to encourage vocabulary expansion and record progress to set academic goals that exceed requirements.
Students will learn focused content to achieve the best score possible on standardized tests such as the SAT, GED, ACT, NY REGENTS, ISEE, HSPT, HISET, SSAD, SHSAT, COOP, and ASVAB. I identify the student’s needs and goals and design a strategy for learning improvement and test-taking skills. The overall vision is to exceed academic goals, which can open doors for the future.
